Helmut Fettweis

Helmut Fettweis (born June 21, 1920 in Düsseldorf , † January 27, 2007 in Bonn - Bad Godesberg ) was a German officer and journalist . He is one of the co-founders and long-time functionaries of lay work in the Catholic military pastoral care .

Life

Helmut Fettweis joined the Wehrmacht at the age of 18 and took part in World War II . From 1956 until his retirement in 1979, Fettweis was a career officer in the Bundeswehr , most recently with the rank of colonel . From the founding of the Bundeswehr onwards, he was involved in the development of organized lay work in the Catholic military pastoral care and was one of the founding members of the Königstein officers' group . From 1962 he belonged to the federal executive committee of the officers, from 1970 also the federal executive committee of the successor organization Association of Catholic Soldiers (GKS).

Since it was founded in 1960, he was editor of the association's journal Königsteiner Officer Letters , and from 1966 as editor-in-chief . He remained in this position even after the magazine was converted into the GKS association organ under the title “ Mission until 1990”. Until 2004, he was a corresponding member of the editorial team.
