Helmut Henzler

Helmut Henzler (born September 26, 1948 in Frickenhausen ) is a German entrepreneur and a former automobile racing driver . He is Wolf Henzler's uncle .

Career

Helmut Henzler began his motorsport career in 1970. In that year he started with a Porsche 911 T in some non-championship races and some races in the German Automobile Circuit Championship (DARM) in the GT + 2.0 class and won a non-championship race in Mainz-Finthen. A year later he won the DARM race in Faßberg in a Porsche 911 S in 1971.

In 1972 he switched briefly to formula racing and drove a season in Formula Super Vee , in which he finished 13th.

In 1973 he competed in a Porsche 911 Carrera RSR in the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) and in the 1st division of the German Racing Championship (DRM).

After a break, in 1976 he first raced a VW Scirocco in a non-championship race and a year later mostly with Manfred Mohr or Willi Bergmeister in the 2nd division of the ETCC. In 1977 he started a race in the sports car world championship . However , he and Willi Bergmeister could not finish the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring .

In 1978 Henzler got back into the Formula Super V 1600 and won the title of the European and German championships with a March racing car.

The following year he started in the European Formula 3 Championship and the German Formula 3 Cup . In 1980 he drove one season with a Maurer MM80 racing car in the Formula 2 European Championship .

In 1981 he switched to the DRM and drove a season there for the BASF Cassettes / Team GS-Sport with a BMW M1 in the 1st division. He was able to win the DRM run in Wunstorf and at the end of the season he finished seventh. At the same time, he and Derek Bell drove a BMW M1 Gr.5 in the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring and finished in 33rd place. Helmut Henzler started together with Hans-Joachim Stuck and Jean-Pierre Jarier in the 1981 Le Mans 24-hour race . Because of an accident, they had to park the BMW M1 Gr.5 early.

Then Henzler ended his motorsport career. Today he is the managing director of a service company.
