Helmut Koch (born April 30, 1922 in Gera ) is a former German politician ( SED ). From 1958 to 1963 he was State Secretary for the collection and purchase of agricultural products in the GDR .

Life

Koch is the son of a moulder and a seamstress who were both SPD members. He attended elementary and commercial college. He received commercial training from 1936 to 1939 and then worked as a commercial clerk. From 1941 to 1945 he did military service in the Wehrmacht . During the advance of the American troops, he deserted and thus escaped captivity.

After the Second World War he became a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the SPD district executive in Gera in 1945, and then in 1946 of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and the SED district executive. From 1945 to 1949 he was an employee or department head in the Gera district administration and from 1949 to 1951 head of the planning and reporting department of the state-owned recording and purchasing company (VEAB) Thuringia . In 1951/52 he attended the SED state party school in Bad Blankenburg and in 1952 became head of the animal collection department and deputy state secretary in the State Secretariat for the collection and purchase of agricultural products in the GDR.

From September 1958 to 1960 he acted as State Secretary for the collection and purchase of agricultural products (successor to Hermann Streit ) and from 1960 to 1963 as State Secretary at the Ministry for Agriculture, Collection and Forestry. On February 7, 1963, he became chairman of the newly formed State Committee for the Collection and Purchase of Agricultural Products at the GDR Council of Ministers. He held this position until 1974. At the same time he was a member of the Agriculture Council of the GDR and from 1968 deputy chairman of the Council for Agriculture and Food Industry (RLN). From 1974 to 1976 he was Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Registration and Forestry. Koch was then from 1976 construction manager, later until retirement in 1987 general director of the VEB slaughter and processing combine Eberswalde / Britz .

A correspondence course at the University of Economics in Berlin he joined in 1962 as a graduate economist from 1965 he was at the Humboldt University of Berlin Dr. agr. PhD. In 1968 he became a candidate and in 1972 a member of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the GDR .

After the fall of the Wall in the GDR, Koch became a member of the Society for the Protection of Civil Rights and Human Dignity (GBM) and the Die Linke party . In July 2015 he announced his resignation from the party Die Linke. Koch lives in Eberswalde .
