Helmut Kostorz (born February 12, 1912 in Katowice , Upper Silesia , † July 22, 1986 in Salzgitter ) was a German politician ( NSDAP / CDU ) and a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Life

Kostorz attended the minority school and learned the stove-fitter trade . In this profession he started his own business in 1936. He was a leading member of the German ethnic group in Poland . From 1937 he worked with the SS security service in the Katowice region. In August 1939 he was part of the Ebbinghaus Freikorps .

After the occupation of East Upper Silesia at the beginning of World War II , he became a local group leader of the NSDAP and was active in the council of the city of Katowice. He was also master craftsman of the district of Katowice city and state and district guild master of the professional branch in Upper Silesia. In his work, the historian Peter Klausch comes to the conclusion that Kostorz tried to use his office to enrich himself personally, in particular by attempting to take over a hardware wholesaler that had been confiscated from its Jewish owner.

In 1942 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht . In 1944 he was temporarily on leave from military service due to an injury, during his time off he was reinstated as NSDAP local group leader in Katowice. From 1945 to 1947 he was a prisoner of war. After his release and expulsion , he moved to Lower Saxony and took care of rebuilding his own existence. In addition, he did active work with expellees, and from 1951 he was deputy regional chairman of the Silesian Landsmannschaft , chairman of the Eastern Upper Silesia Working Group in the Silesian Landsmannschaft and a member of the federal executive committee. He was a member of the regional association Oder / Neisse of the CDU and deputy regional chairman of the committee for expellees of the regional association of the CDU in Braunschweig.

Kostorz was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament for the fourth and fifth electoral periods from May 6, 1959 to June 5, 1967. He died on July 22, 1986 in Salzgitter.
