Helmut Kraus (born November 16, 1938 in Hirschaid ) is a former German football player .

Career

Before joining Eintracht Frankfurt , Kraus played at SV Buttenheim and 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 . From 1960 to 1963 he made 82 appearances and 21 goals for the Schweinfurt team in what was then the first-class soccer league south . The attacker made his debut on August 28, 1960 in a 1-1 home draw against FSV Frankfurt alongside center forward Rolf Schweighöfer in the Oberliga Süd. At the end of the round, the man from Buttenheim had completed 22 league games and scored four goals. In his second league season, 1961/62, he contributed with his nine goals - like Rolf Kupfer - in all 30 point games to keep the Schweinfurt 14th place. In the last first-class league year, 1962/63, the fast attacker was not missing in any point game - just like goalkeeper Günter Bernard - and scored eight goals for Schweinfurt, which ended up in eleventh place. To introduce the new Bundesliga for the 1963/64 season, he was signed by Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kraus started with Eintracht on August 24, 1963 with the home game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga . He formed with Richard Kreß , Horst Trimhold , Wilhelm Huberts and Lothar Schämer the attack of the Eintracht-Elf trained by coach Paul Oßwald . Since the other strikers Wolfgang Solz and Erwin Stein also belonged to the Riederwaldelf, Kraus did not make more than 15 Bundesliga games with four goals in the first Bundesliga season. Frankfurt took third place, tied with MSV Duisburg. With the DFB Cup 1963/64 he experienced a sporting climax. With a 3-1 home win on June 3, 1964 against Hertha BSC, Eintracht played their way into the final of the competition with right-winger Helmut Kraus. The team from TSV München 1860 , supervised by coach Max Merkel , prevailed on June 13, 1964 in Stuttgart with a 2-0 victory in the final. With the Eagle Bearers, Kraus also took part in trade fair cup games against FC Kilmarnock, Drumcondra Dublin, Nottingham Forest, Wacker Innsbruck, Juventus Turin and Atletico Bilbao from 1964 to 1969 . He stayed with Eintracht until 1969, where he scored seven goals in 65 Bundesliga games and one goal in six cup games for Eintracht.

Then he moved back to 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 in the Regionalliga Süd for the 1969/70 season. Under coach Jenö Vincze , he made 35 appearances and scored two goals. Schweinfurt was fifth and Vincze had used Kraus as a right defender. Outstanding were his duels against the left winger Erwin Kremers in the two games (0: 1/5: 1) against the champions, Bundesliga promoted and DFB Cup winner Kickers Offenbach . Before goalkeeper Manfred Kirsch, he and Karl Metzger formed the defenders of the Schweinfurt team. He played a total of 90 regional league games until 1973 in which he scored seven goals. From 1973, his career at VfR Schweinfurt ended in the amateur camp.
