Helmut Maintz
Helmut Maintz (born January 14, 1959 in Aachen ) is a German civil engineer and Aachen cathedral master builder .
Live and act
Born in Aachen Marianne Institute , Helmut Maintz visited after his GCSEs at the David Hansemann Realschule from 1976 first the Technical School of Engineering in Aachen and studied subsequently Civil Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences in Aachen . During his studies, which he completed with a diploma in 1982, he gained practical experience in the company of his parents, who ran a plastering and plastering company.
After completing his studies, Maintz served in the German Armed Forces for a while , ended his mission in 1984 and took over the family business. In view of the upcoming complete renovation of the Aachen Cathedral , the incumbent Aachen cathedral master builder Hans-Karl Siebigs brought him into the cathedral construction management in 1986. After Siebig's retirement in 1997, on the recommendation of the Aachen cathedral provost Hans Müllejans , Maintz was initially commissioned as cathedral construction manager to continue the renovation work on the choir hall, and in 2000 he was appointed master builder.
In addition, Helmut Maintz has been teaching at RWTH Aachen University since 2001 . In 2003 and 2004 he was elected head of the EU project network for mosaic restoration and conservation (Nemorek) in association with Lourdes and Venice and in October 2004 he was elected to the board of the European Association of Cathedral Builders. In 2009 he brought the annual meeting of this European association to Aachen for the first time. Since 2012 Maintz has also been a member of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), the international council for the preservation of monuments and a sub-organization of UNESCO .
On January 15, 2013, the enthusiastic carnivalist received the traditional "Krüzzbrürorden" from the parish committee Heilig Kreuz in Aachen.
