Helmut Mogk
Helmut Mogk (born November 12, 1896 in Leipzig ; † 1973 ) was a German librarian .
Life
Mogk was born in Leipzig in 1896 as the son of Nordist Eugen Mogk . He attended the St. Thomas School in Leipzig and was a member of the Wandervögel . In 1914 he signed up as a war volunteer and served on the Western Front . He received the Silver Friedrich August Medal and the Iron Cross 2nd Class. After the First World War he studied biology at the University of Leipzig and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. In 1925 he became a volunteer and from 1927 worked as a librarian at the Leipzig University Library . In 1939 he was wounded as a soldier and one year later declared unfit for war. From 1947 he held a teaching position for biology, ecology and library science at the University of Leipzig. From 1950 to 1958, he succeeded Karl Buchheim as director of the Leipzig University Library.
