HD 6869 is a star system in the constellation Phoenix, almost 300 light years away .

R. P. Sellors identified the star as a double in the early 1890s. The companion is at a position angle of 182 ° at a distance of 1.2 arc seconds (2001). Another, about 14 mag bright star is located approx. 43 ″ away at a position angle of 85 ° (1999).

The entry NGC 405 in the New General Catalog can be traced back to this star: John Herschel observed it during his observations in Cape Town (observation night of September 6, 1834). He was unable to get a sharp image of the star and it was therefore not clear whether it was a star or not, so he recorded the object under the number 2380.
