Helmut Oesterreich (born October 1, 1953 in Heidelberg ) is a German guitarist and conductor .

Life

Helmut Oesterreich studied guitar with Michael Teuchert and chamber music with his father Heinz Teuchert at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts . There he has been teaching guitar and methodology since 1986. He also teaches guitar at the Heidelberg Music School and, since 2009, guitar, ensemble management and teaching methodology at the vocational school for music in the Middle Franconia district in Dinkelsbühl .

He is a member of the ensembles for new music Phorminx from Darmstadt and Nunc from Heidelberg. As a conductor he has been leading the Baden-Württemberg Youth Guitar Orchestra since 1994, with which he won first prize at the German Competition for Selected Orchestras in 1998 and 2018, undertook numerous concert tours and made CD recordings. From 2003 to 2005 he was conductor of the World Guitar Orchestra . In 1996 he won the fourth German Orchestra Competition with the Ensemble GuitArt . He also directed the United Guitars Ensemble in 2007 and the Open Source Guitars of the Trossingen University of Music since 2008 . He is also regularly invited by internationally known ensembles such as the Nederlands Gitaarorkest or the European Youth Guitar Ensemble as a guest conductor at concerts and workshops at major festivals around the world, for example in Havana , Almere , Veria and Nürtingen . On his concert tours around the world he worked with Terry Riley , Leo Brouwer , David Tanenbaum and Olaf Van Gonnissen , among others .

He won the Diapason d'or for the CD NUNC and it was CD of the month in the magazines Guitar & Lute and Staccato .
