Ensemble Phorminx

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ensemble Phorminx was founded in 1988 by musicians and composers in Darmstadt . The starting point was the idea of a direct and long-term cooperation between interpreters and composers.

Works of the new music are developed and performed by the ensemble almost without exception in close cooperation with the respective composer. Over 80 compositions have now been written and premiered for Phorminx. The ensemble also sees an important task in building a broad, constantly evolving repertoire. New ways of mediation, introducing young people to the often difficult subject of New Music is an important concern of the ensemble's musicians. For this, the ensemble was awarded the Darmstadt Music Prize in 2011 .

Invitations to various festivals

International summer courses in Darmstadt and Frankfurt festivals, concerts at home and abroad, cooperation with the Frankfurt Chamber Opera (contemporary music theater), radio productions ( Südwestrundfunk , Hessischer Rundfunk , Bayerischer Rundfunk , SFB ), and concert recordings document the artistic work of Phorminx. On the occasion of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's 250th birthday , the ensemble conceived a project in conjunction with the Siemens cultural program, with which it made its debut at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in August 1999 .
