Helmut Pless

Helmut Claus Heinrich Pleß (born November 2, 1918 in Hamburg , † December 25, 1999 in Lüneburg ) was a German journalist.

Life

Pleß, a former classmate of Helmut Schmidt , served as a pilot in a close-up reconnaissance squadron during World War II . For his missions in the war against the Soviet Union , he was awarded the German Cross in Gold on December 3, 1942, and the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on June 9, 1944 as a lieutenant .

After the war he joined the Bundeswehr and last held the rank of colonel in the reserve . From 1962 to 1983 Pleß was editor-in-chief of the Lüneburg regional newspaper .

In 1984 he received an entry in the honor book of the city of Lüneburg.
