Helmut Reisen

Helmut Reisen (born July 20, 1950 in Viersen ) is a German economist. Until September 2012, Reisen was Research Director at the Development Center of the OECD in Paris. Since then he has been running an economic and development policy consultancy in Berlin. He is also adjunct professor of economics at the University of Basel and an associated scientist at the German Development Institute.

Life

In the 1990s, Reisen became known internationally as an expert on issues relating to emerging markets , rating agencies and development finance . He is the architect and co-author of the first study OECD Perspectives on Global Development , which appeared in 2010. Helmut Reisen is known to a wider audience through his columns in the journal Internationale Politik and in the European policy portal voxeu.org of the Center for Economic Policy Research , where he has made a name for himself as a thought leader on globalization, the currency system and development. Prof. Reisen is a member of the Society for Economic and Social Sciences ( Association for Social Policy ), Committee for Developing Countries.

Das Erste first aired the documentary The African Patient - Faith Healer China? from, in which Reisen played a key role as a scientific advisor and interview partner.

Since October 1st, 2012 Reisen has been running a consulting company based in Berlin, which advises development ministries, development banks and foundations. Among other things, he advises the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Cooperation (BMZ), the African Development Bank and the Bertelsmann Foundation. Since 2017 he has been advising Gilbert Houngbo , President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development IFAD .
