The Hemelinger Actien Brewery (HAB, later Hemelinger Aktien-Brauerei ) was a brewery that had been based in the then Bremen suburb and today's district of Hemelingen since 1878 . In 1921 the joint stock brewery was taken over by Beck & Co. The HAB brewery was closed in 1981. The original premises in Hemelinger Bahnhofstrasse were used for a long time as a branch and distribution warehouse for Beck & Co. and as a bottling plant for Bremer Erfrischungsgetränke GmbH (concessionaire for Coca-Cola). In 2007 the company was taken over by Coca-Cola Erfrischungsgetränke GmbH ; the location was closed on July 1, 2016.

Since February 2012, Hemelinger Spezial is no longer brewed by Anheuser-Busch InBev in Bremen, but by Hofbrauhaus Wolters in Braunschweig .

Hemelinger special.

The most famous variety is the Hemelinger Spezial , a bottom-fermented draft beer with an alcohol content of 4.7% that has been brewed since 1878. For a long time, however, the beer was brewed outside of the Hemelingen district in Bremen by the Haake-Beck brewery, which belongs to Beck & Co and which took over all the shares in the Hemelinger Actien brewery in 1921. Beck & Co now belongs to the Belgian Anheuser-Busch InBev . Hemelinger Spezial is sold in Bremen and the surrounding area.

In December 2008, the trademark rights were sold to the Achimer company Getränke Ahlers , but production continued at Beck & Co initially . In March 2009, Ahlers announced that they wanted to put the brand back in "the minds of the public" through advertising. Hemelinger Spezial has been brewed in the Hofbrauhaus Wolters in Braunschweig since February 2012, as the contract with Anheuser-Busch InBev has not been extended.
