Hemoglobin ( bleeder ) is a Canadian - American horror film by film director Peter Svatek from the year 1997 .
action
In 1652, the King of Holland forbade marriages within noble families because it caused blood diseases . Eva Van Daam, a great narcissist , gave herself up to her twin brother. When she heard of the king's decree, she left the country and moved to the New World with her relatives. Over time, the whole family disappeared from the public eye.
John Strauss suffers from a mysterious illness and seeks healing on an island where his ancestors lived. The doctor, Dr. Marlowe, supports him and his wife Kathleen with his blood tests. John, whose health is deteriorating, finds out that he is a descendant of the Van Daams. Decades ago the islanders set their homes on fire, but some survived.
Meanwhile, weird things are happening on the island. Corpses and people disappear. They are pulled into underground passages by crippled creatures. These hermaphrodites feed on the blood of their victims. The islanders entrench themselves in a lighthouse that is under attack. John and his pregnant wife get into the tunnels. Only towards John are the creatures not behaving hostile. He stays with them and satisfies his longing for blood and human flesh. He too has a twin sister who gives herself to him. Kathleen and Dr. Marlowe can save themselves and leave the island.
