Nick Hempton

Nick Hempton (* around 1980 ) is an Australian jazz musician ( alto and tenor saxophone , composition ) in the hardbop tradition.

Live and act

Nick Hempton played in R&B and Ska bands in his home country ; In 2000 he played in the Dan Barnett Big Band in Sydney and in 2002 with Mark Rivett, Emma Pask and John Morrison's Swing City. He came to New York City in 2004. Influenced by Dexter Gordon , Sonny Stitt and Cannonball Adderley , he has worked there ever since as an accompanist and band leader in the city's jazz scene. In 2005 he formed the Nick Hempton Band ; The debut album was created in 2009 and lasted until 2016. Recordings were also made with Kayo Hiraki ( This Mellowed Hear, 2005). In the field of jazz he was involved in eight recording sessions between 2000 and 2015. Currently (2019) he leads a quartet consisting of Kyle Koehler (organ), Ed Cherry (guitar) and Joe Strasser (drums).
