history
The area of what is now Henderson was named after the first known settler in the area, David Henderson. He settled there with his son and friends as early as 1866 and founded the place. Mennonite families began to immigrate from Prussia in 1874, and their descendants still make up the largest proportion of the population. The first school was established in 1876 and in 1887 a Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad line reached the site. In the same year more houses, shops and a train depot were built and the city was officially registered. After the Great Depression in the 1930s, the place recovered and its population increased. While Henderson had 485 inhabitants in 1920, there were 536 in 1950 and 986 today.
