Hendrik Saar

Hendrik Saar (* 24 February July / 8 March  1893 greg. In the municipality of Laatre, then parish Halliste , today rural municipality Abja , Pärnu district , Estonia ; †  1944 ?) Was an Estonian writer .

life and work

Hen (d) rik Saar was born the son of a kötter . Saar became known as a writer, playwright , columnist and couplet singer under the pseudonym Kivilombi Ints in the interwar period . Other pseudonyms Saars were Sulgnokk , Dr. Mina , Imre Lila , Sarja Siim and -ts .

He wrote numerous comedies , antics and pranks , appeared as a humorous singer and actor and wrote exciting children's literature. Serious are his two in Tallinn playing prose Elli long mine and Lõbunaisterahva romaan that deal critically with society.

Together with the Estonian cartoonist Gori (1894–1944), Saar published the Estonian satirical magazine Sipelgas (“The Ant”) in Tallinn from 1919 onwards . Saar was also an editor for the Estonian (satirical) newspapers Vana Meie Mats , Naljaleht , Jõulualbum and others.

He was also known as a translator of operettas into Estonian ( Franz Lehár ). For the first Estonian musical film , Kuldämblik ("The Gold Spider"), which was released in 1930, Saar wrote the screenplay and starred himself.

During the first Soviet occupation of Estonia (1940/41), Saar published a mocking feature section about Adolf Hitler in the Estonian cultural newspaper Sirp ja Vasara . With the German occupation of Estonia (1941–1944) Saar was imprisoned by the National Socialists in 1942. In the summer of 1944 his trail is lost.

Private life

Hendrik Saars daughter, the ballet dancer Asta Saar (1920–2000), was the (second) wife of the Estonian singer Georg Ots (1920–1975) from 1944 to 1964 .
