The male first name Renan is a variant of Ronan that is common in France , the Celtic name of a bishop and hermit from Ireland, who is also mentioned as the bishop of Corseul ( Brittany ) in the 6th century Christian calendar . The relics of the man, soon to be venerated as a saint, came to Quimper , whose patron saint he is together with Saint Corentin . The Breton municipality of Saint-Renan ( Finistère department ) is named after him.
