Henk Houwaart junior

Henk Houwaart (born March 1, 1967 in Bruges , † April 26, 2008 ; also Henkie Houwaart ) was a Belgian football player . He was active as a professional in the first division at Club Brugge , with which he became Belgian champion in 1988. At the age of 41 he succumbed to the consequences of a metastatic osteosarcoma .

Career

Houwaart was the son of former Dutch international Henk Houwaart . He already played in the youth of Club Brugge and turned professional there in 1984. His father was the club's coach when the striker made his first division debut there at the age of 18: he came on for Luc Hinderyckx in the 89th minute in the local derby at Cercle Brugge on May 5, 1985 . At the beginning of the 1985/86 season, the young Houwaart was used a few times, but could not prevail against the regular cast of the storm with Jean-Pierre Papin , Marc Degryse and Willy Wellens . It was not until the spring of 1986 that he was back in the squad and, after initially having to stay on the bench a few times, was able to score his first goal in the game at Royal Antwerp on February 16, 1986 by equalizing the 1-1 final score. In the cup competition he won, he made three appearances this season and made his international debut for the club in the first round of the UEFA Cup against Boavista Porto . But even in the following two seasons, Houwaart could not establish himself as a regular player. For the 1988/89 season he moved to Germinal Beerschot , where he stayed for a season. Then he was active at the lower class clubs Francs Borains and FC Izegem.
