Hendrik Gijsbert Bernhard "Henk" van den Breemen (born March 23, 1941 in Valkenswaard ) is a Dutch general a. D. From 1994 to 1998 he was Chief of Staff of the Dutch Armed Forces .

Van den Breemen attended the Royal Naval Institute of the Netherlands ( Koninklijk Instituut voor de Marine ) from September 1960 to August 1963 and received officer training there. In the following years he was promoted several times within the Dutch army. 1975 major , 1981 lieutenant , 1987 colonel and 1994 general . In this rank he was chief of staff for four years until 1998 and thus the commander in chief of the armed forces of the Netherlands.

Van den Breemen was one of five authors of the 2008 pamphlet entitled "Towards a Grand Strategy for an Uncertain Word; Renewing Transatlantic Partnership" . The German General a was also at the writing. D. Klaus Naumann involved as author. The authors call for a renewal of the transatlantic partnership and presented their pamphlet in Washington, DC , as well as at NATO and EU level .

Van den Breemen is currently on the advisory board of the Noaber Foundation, which supports smaller companies.

Awards and honors

Henk van den Breemen has received high awards in several European countries and in the USA . In the Netherlands he received the Order of the Dutch Lion (Knight) and the Order of Orange-Nassau (Commander). In Germany he was honored with the large cross of merit with a star on the shoulder ribbon. He also received the US military order Legion of Merit in the second highest level ( Commander ), the Swedish North Star Order , as well as other awards in Norway and the Czech Republic .
