Henning Stille Berg (born September 1, 1969 in Eidsvoll ) is a Norwegian football coach and former player .

Player career

The former central defender began his professional football career in 1988 at Vålerenga Oslo in the highest Norwegian league. From 1991 to 1993 Berg was under contract with Lillestrøm SK . In 1993 the Norwegian moved to the Blackburn Rovers in England . He became English champion with the Rovers in 1995. In 1997 he moved to Manchester United . With the Red Devils he won the triple (champion, cup winner and Champions League winner) in 1999 and another championship in 2000. In the new millennium he went back to the Blackburn Rovers. Berg won the 2002 English League Cup with the Rovers. His last season as a player was with Glasgow Rangers in 2003/04. Internationally, the Norwegian belongs to the elite group of players who have played a hundred or more games for their home country. Berg played exactly 100 international matches for Norway and scored nine goals. He took part in the 1994 soccer world championship in the USA, the 1998 soccer world championship in France and the 2000 European soccer championship in the Netherlands and Belgium . In the USA he was eliminated with the Norwegian team in the group stage and was used in all games. He was more successful in 1998 - there was the last sixteen against Italy . Berg was also used there in all games and received a yellow card. At the EM 2000, however, it was only used once. As in 1994, Norway was eliminated in the two Benelux countries in the group stage.

Coaching career

From 2005 to September 2008 Berg worked as a trainer for Lyn Oslo in Norway. From 2009 he took over Lillestrøm SK as a trainer. Since November 1, 2012, Berg worked as a coach at his former club Blackburn Rovers, but was sacked on December 27, 2012 after 57 days in office. From January 1, 2014, Berg was a trainer at KP Legia Warsaw in the Polish Ekstraklasa , with whom he won the championship title. After one season each at Videoton FC and Stabæk Fotball , he has been coaching the Omonia Nicosia football team , which plays in the Cypriot First Division , since 2019 .
