Henning Frederichs
Henning Frederichs (born May 8, 1936 in Königsberg ; † December 28, 2003 in Wuppertal ) was a German composer , church musician , conductor and music teacher .
life and work
After graduating from school, he studied music and theology in Hamburg , Cologne and Bochum . After completing his studies in 1960, he worked as a cantor , organist and pianist in Hamburg, Braunschweig and Cologne. He later worked as a university lecturer in Bochum and Cologne.
At the Ruhr University in Bochum he received the title of University Music Director. Here he taught the subjects of harmony, counterpoint and composition . Most recently he worked as a teacher at the Musikhochschule in Cologne , where he trained church musicians in the field of choir and orchestra conducting.
His compositional work is very extensive and diverse. It includes chamber music , orchestral music , stage works as well as compositions for organ and piano . In addition, he created several commissioned compositions. In his compositions, Frederichs primarily dealt with spiritual and liturgical themes. The performances of his compositions ensured worldwide fame.
