Henning Scheunemann (* around 1570 in Halberstadt ; † around 1615 ) was a German doctor and alchemist .

Life

Born around 1570 in Halberstadt, Scheunemann studied in Würzburg from 1586 and received his doctorate in medicine there in 1594 under Adriaan van Roomen (Adrianus Romanus). From 1599 he taught physics at the Collegium Ernestinum in Bamberg , where he 1601 for the personal physician of the Prince Bishop Johann Philipp von Gebsattel was appointed. However, his appointment was not extended in 1610 under his successor. Scheunemann then turned to Aschersleben , where he seems to have held the office of city doctor . Presumably here in Aschersleben he died around 1615.

meaning

Although Scheunemann does not enjoy much research today, he was regarded by his contemporaries as an important representative of Paracelsian medicine . Particularly relevant here is his posthumously published theoretical main work Medicina reformata . Scheunemann was in contact with the alchemists Heinrich Khunrath and Johann Thölde . In 1613 he published an analysis of the "St. Anne's Fountain" near Zwönitz in the Ore Mountains .
