Henning Vöpel (born October 13, 1972 in Hamburg ) is a German economist. He is the director of the Hamburg Institute for International Economics (HWWI) and teaches as a professor of economics at the HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration . He is also the presenter of the program “Hamburg 4.0 - Ideas. Impulses. Innovations ”at the Hamburg TV station Hamburg 1 and co-founder of the Hammerbrooklyn.DigitalCampus in Hamburg as well as a member of the management board of Hamburg @ work . Vöpel regularly appears as an expert in the media, for example in the Phoenix Round, the Daily Topics , as an insider on Xing or in the WELT and the Handelsblatt . He is a keynote speaker on the topics of globalization and digitization at national and international conferences, for example in Cusco .

Life

Vöpel studied economics at the University of Hamburg . From 1999 to 2004 Vöpel worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Foreign Trade and Economic Integration at the University of Hamburg. In 2003 he received his doctorate there. rer. pole. with Vinzenz Timmermann with a dissertation on the "Stabilizing Effects of Monetary Policy - A Theoretical and Empirical Analysis". He then founded the management consultancy EconView, where he worked as managing director for two years. From 2006 to 2014, Vöpel was a research assistant at the HWWI, where he was in charge of the field of “Health and Sports Economics”. In 2006 Vöpel took part twice in the so-called “joint diagnosis” of the leading economic research institutes on behalf of the German government. In 2009 and 2015, at the invitation of the US Department of State, he spent a stay in Washington DC, New York City, San Francisco and Boston as part of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). Since 2010 he has been Professor of Economics at the HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration. Vöpel has been director and managing director of the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) since 2014 and succeeded Thomas Straubhaar in this position . His main research interests are business cycle analysis, monetary policy, globalization and digital economy. Vöpel is also known as an expert in sports economics.
