Peter Dabrock (2016)

Peter Dabrock (* 1964 in Epe ) is a German Protestant theologian and professor of systematic theology with a focus on ethics at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . In 2012 Dabrock was appointed to the German Ethics Council and in 2016 was elected chairman of the German Ethics Council.

After studying Protestant and Catholic theology, philosophy and sociology in Würzburg , Bonn and Bochum , Dabrock worked from 1995 to 2002 as a research assistant at the Chair for Systematic Theology (Ethics) at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the Ruhr University Bochum. Here he did his doctorate with Christofer Frey . From 2002 to 2008 he was junior professor for social ethics / bioethics in the Protestant theology department at the Philipps University of Marburg . During this time he was also a fellow at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) at Bielefeld University in the “Public Health Genetics” task force and at the Center for Social Policy at the University of Bremen . From 2008 to 2010 he was Professor of Social Ethics in the Protestant Theology Department at Philipps University in Marburg.

Since the 2010/11 winter semester, Dabrock has been a full professor at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg , where he heads the Chair for Systematic Theology II (Ethics) in the Theology Department. His main focus is on bio- and medical ethics as well as questions of justice theory.

In April 2020, Dabrock criticized the Leopoldina's recommendation to keep daycare centers closed until summer due to the corona epidemic .

He is married to Stefanie Schardien .

Memberships

Dabrock is chairman of the German Ethics Council and, among other things, a member of the DFG Senate Commission for Animal Experimental Research and the EKD Chamber for Public Responsibility. From 2004 to 2013 he was a board member of the Central Ethics Commission at the German Medical Association and from 2011 to 2016 he was a member of the "European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies". In addition, he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Austrian Genome Research Program GEN-AU, the Scientific Advisory Board of the Central Research Infrastructure for Molecular Pathology (CRIP) in Potsdam, the panel of experts from PRivacy and Emerging SCIENces and Technologies (PRESCIENT) and Associated Partner in "Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure (BBMRI)". Dabrock is also a member of numerous specialist societies, including the Societas Ethica and the Academy for Ethics in Medicine. In 2017 he was elected to the German Academy of Science and Engineering .
