Henri-Godefroy de La Tour d'Auvergne
Henri-Godefroi-Bernard-Alphonse de La Tour d'Auvergne-Lauraguais (born October 21, 1823 in Paris , † May 5, 1871 in Angliers ) was a French nobleman from the House of La Tour d'Auvergne and statesman of the Second Empire .
Life
Prince de La Tour d'Auvergne-Lauraguais entered the diplomatic service in 1841 , and was successively the French ambassador in Weimar , Florence , and Turin . In 1860 he was transferred to Berlin , 1862 to Rome and in 1863 he was appointed ambassador to the English court in London .
From Napoleon III. Appointed Foreign Minister in the Cabinet on July 17, 1869 , La Tour d'Auvergne and his cabinet colleagues gave way to Ollivier's Cabinet on January 2, 1870 . After the first defeats in the Franco-German War and the overthrow of Ollivier's cabinet in August 1870, Charles Cousin-Montauban brought him back into the government as Foreign Minister on August 10 . After the proclamation of the 3rd Republic on September 4, 1870, he retired into private life and died May 5, 1871.
