Henri Axenfeld

Henri Axenfeld , also Henry Axenfeld or Heinrich Axenfeld (born January 14, 1824 in Odessa , † 1892 in Paris ) was a Russian - French painter .

Life

Axenfeld was the son of Israel Aksenfeld .

At first he painted portraits, later landscape genre paintings, and also religious motifs. After arriving in Paris, Axenfeld studied in Léon Cogniet's studio . In 1859 he worked with the artists Achard, Stéphane Baron, Gustave Doré , Hippolyte Fauvel, Augustin Feyen-Perrin , Flahaut, Doulogne, Louis Français , Gassies, Edmond Guet, Jean-Louis Hamon , Henri Harpignies and Vernier on the decoration of the Staff room of the Hôpital de la Charité , which has been partially reconstructed in the Musée de l'Assistance Publique , Paris (quai de la Tournelle). In 1860 he was portrayed in Paris by James McNeill Whistler . In 1878 he became a French citizen.

Axenfeld exhibited in London from 1874–77, in 1885, 1887, 1888, 1889 and 1890 in the Salon de Paris and in 1892 at the Exposition internationale de blanc & noir in Paris.

His brother was Alexandre Axenfeld , whom he portrayed around 1850.
