Henri Duquesne (* 1652 , † November 11, 1722 in Geneva ) was the son of Abraham Duquesne , lieutenant general of the French naval forces, and Gabrielle de Bernières from the French city of Dieppe .

Life

In 1666 Henri entered the service of the French fleet and in 1675 he became captain. He was a Huguenot and fled in 1685, after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes by Louis XIV, to the Swiss Vaud , where he bought the dominion of Aubonne VD from Baron Jean-Baptiste Tavernier .

He had the inner courtyard built in Aubonne Castle and created the plans for the port of Morges, built between 1691 and 1696, and ships for the Bern fleet. His project of 1689 to found a Protestant colony on the Ile Bourbon ( Réunion ) was prevented by Louis XIV. Due to frequent legal disputes with the municipality of Aubonne, he sold the rule of Aubonne to Bern in 1701 . He then moved to Geneva to live with his sons who were studying there.
