Henri Weise (born July 13, 1954 in Pößneck , † May 1977 in Berlin ) was a victim of the Berlin Wall .

Life

Henri Weise grew up as the eldest son of his parents with his two brothers in Ranis. His father worked as a driver, his mother as a saleswoman. In 1973 the parents divorced, after which the father moved to Berlin. During his school days, Weise was active in the FDJ . At VEB Carl Zeiss Jena he started an apprenticeship as a toolmaker , which he completed in 1974. He became a member of the FDGB and the Society for German-Soviet Friendship . After completing his apprenticeship, he worked in various professions.

He submitted his first exit application in May 1976. In August 1976 he was arrested and imprisoned near Wittenberge on an Elbe dike near the border on “suspicion of attempted illegal border crossing”. During his imprisonment, he applied to the State Council of the GDR for the revocation of his citizenship . He asked the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany for political asylum . After denying any further plans to flee, he was released from prison in October 1976. Another application to leave the country was refused in November 1976.

In January 1977 he complained to the Interior Department of the Pößneck district about the prohibition of his previous activity as a heating fitter. He mentioned his contact with the permanent representation and announced further contacts. At least since then, the Ministry for State Security (MfS) has been observing him in the " Operative Personal Control ". Spies are activated in his environment. The aim of the MfS was to prove that Henri Weise had crossed the border illegally. The intentions to flee were confirmed by the informers.

In May 1977 Henri Weise went to his father in Berlin . He stayed there for a few hours and then left the apartment under the pretext of being back a short time later. His track was lost at this point, until border guards found his body on July 27, 1977 at the Marschallbrücke water border crossing point in Berlin-Mitte. On September 1, 1977, the body was cremated and transferred to Ranis for burial.
