Henri Xhonneux

Henri Mathieu Ghislain Xhonneux (born June 12, 1945 in Eupen , † March 22, 1995 in Uccle ) was a Belgian filmmaker .

Life

Henri Xhonneux was born to François Xhonneux (from Henri-Chapelle) and Maria Schmitz from Kelmis . After graduating from high school in Greek- Latin , he attended the "Cameraman" department of the "Institut des Arts de Diffusion" (IAD) in Brussels from 1963 to 1966 . From 1966 to 1969 he worked as a freelance cameraman for what was then the state broadcaster Belgavox, for which he produced numerous reports on Africa , among other things . In 1970 he founded the production company "YC Aligator Film" with Eric van Beuren. In addition to numerous short films and TV series, his feature films “Souvenir of Gibraltar” and “ Marquis ” are particularly noteworthy.

His first feature film, the “Souvenir of Gibraltar” released in 1975, is largely autobiographical. Here his youth is processed in the Welkenraedter homeland. Contributors include Annie Cordy and Eddie Constantine . This film was even featured at the Moscow Film Festival in the 1970s .

The film “Marquis”, which was made in collaboration with Roland Topor in 1989 and is based on the story of Donatien-Alphonse-François de Sade , celebrated successes in Paris , among others, and was shown there for a year in cinemas. In Barcelona , Spain , he won the prize for the best artistic contribution at the 1989 film festival and the prize of the International Committee for the Dissemination of the Arts through Cinema at the Figuera da Foz International Cinema Festival.

Working with the illustrator and filmmaker Roland Topor , the television series Téléchat was created , which between 1983 and 1985 became a cult series among young audiences. In 1984 alone she won the prize for the best French children's and youth program in Cannes , the honorary mention at the “The Child in Our Age” congress in Milan, first prize at the Gijón Festival in Spain and finally the crystal antenna for the best program in Brussels Year. In the following year 1985 the series won the silver medal at the 27th TV Festival in New York and was even nominated for the " Emmy Award" in Los Angeles .

Finally, in 1987, Henri Xhonneux published his first book “A rebrousse poil”, followed two years later by the publication of the annotated screenplay of “Marquis”.

Henri Xhonneux zu Uccle died on March 22, 1995 at the age of only 49 years.
