Henriette was born as the daughter of the surgeon Johann Carl (Martin) Krohn and spent childhood and youth in Röbel / Müritz , where the family had moved in 1800 and where the father owned a house and worked as a surgeon. She married the Hanoverian lieutenant Wilhelm (Ferdinand) von Bissing (1787-1856) in Röbel on July 5, 1813 , the third son of Friedrich Leopold von Bissing from an old Swabian noble family .

Henriette accompanied her young husband in the wars of liberation . In 1837 Wilhelm von Bissing took his leave as lieutenant colonel , the couple went to Nienburg / Weser . Wilhelm Freiherr von Bissing died there in 1856. Two years later Henriette first moved to Rostock to live with her mother, after whose death she went to a sister in Anklam in West Pomerania in 1870 , where she lived until her death.

The novel Die Familie Steinfels or die Kreolin established her reputation as a writer . Numerous successful novels and short stories followed.

In Hamburg, von Bissing maintained close contact with the Robert Miles Slomans family in his daughter, the writer Eliza Wille , who found them an inclined critic of their works. Her foster daughter Alwine von Bissing (née Heins) later married John Sloman, a nephew of Robert Sloman. The successful Hamburg saltpeter importer Henry B. Sloman is her grandson.
