Henry Drisler
Henry Drisler (born December 27, 1818 on Staten Island , † November 30, 1897 in New York City ) was an American classical philologist .
Life
Drisler graduated from Columbia College in 1839 , taught classical studies at Columbia Grammar School for four years, and was then appointed tutor of college classics . In 1845 he was appointed associate professor for Latin and Greek and in 1857 at the new separate chair for Latin language and literature. Ten years later he succeeded Charles Anthon as Jay Professor of Greek Language and Literature.
