Henry Clayton Ellenbogen (born April 3, 1900 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary , †  July 4, 1985 in Miami , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1933 and 1938 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Ellenbogen attended the public schools in his Austrian homeland. Then he began to study law at the University of Vienna . Soon after, he emigrated to the United States, where he settled in Pittsburgh . Until 1924 he studied at the Duquesne University there , where he finished his law studies. After his admission to the bar in 1926, he began to work in this profession in Pittsburgh. Among other things, he acted as an arbitrator in labor issues between the federal agency National War Labor Board and the Third Regional War Labor Board . Ellenbogen also wrote numerous articles on economic and social topics. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 1932 congressional election , elbow was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 33rd  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Melville Clyde Kelly on March 4, 1933 . After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on January 3, 1938 . During that time, many of the Roosevelt administration's New Deal laws were passed there. In 1935 the provisions of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution were applied for the first time , according to which the legislative period of the Congress ends or begins on January 3rd.

Henry Ellenbogen's resignation as a congressman came after his election to the Allegheny County Court of Appeals Justice . He held this office between 1938 and 1966. Since 1963 he was presiding judge there. He spent his retirement in Miami, where he died on July 4, 1985.
