Henry Fuchs (born January 20, 1948 in Tokaj , Hungary ) is an American computer scientist with Hungarian roots and since 1983 the Federico Gil Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill , as well as Adjunct Professor for Biomedical Engineering. Together with Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann and Markus Gross , he also heads the “BeingThere” International Research Center for Tele-Presence and Tele-Cooperation at NTU Singapore . His field of work is computer graphics , in particular the areas of virtual reality , telepresence , medical image processing, computer vision and robotics .

Life

Henry Fuchs left Hungary with his family during the Hungarian uprising in 1956 and immigrated to the USA in 1957 . He studied computer science and computer science at the University of California, Santa Cruz , and earned a PhD from the University of Utah in 1975 . He has been at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 1978 , where he became one of the world's most famous researchers in the field of virtual environments and telepresence .
