Henry G. Saperstein

Henry G. Saperstein (born June 2, 1918 in Chicago , Illinois , † June 24, 1998 in Beverly Hills , California ) was an American film producer and from 1959 owner of the cartoon production company United Productions of America .

Life

Saperstein was educated at the University of Chicago and later ran several theaters in the city. In the mid-1950s he worked intermittently with Colonel Tom Parker , the manager of Elvis Presley . In 1955 he moved to Hollywood , where he worked as a distributor for Tōhō 's monster films . From 1958 he produced various sporting events such as golf and bowling for television and in the following year he bought the animation production company United Productions of America from Stephen Bosustow , which was particularly known for its character Mister Magoo . Saperstein then produced 130 episodes of a television series of the same name between 1960 and 1962. At the same time, a series based on the character Dick Tracy was created .

In 1968, Saperstein was executive producer of the war film We Are Hell, with Toshirō Mifune and Lee Marvin in the lead roles. Shortly before his death, he was involved as executive producer on the production of the Disney film adaptation Mr. Magoo with Leslie Nielsen in the title role.

Saperstein was married and had four children.
