successes
At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 , Henry Leaf took part in the racket competitions in singles and doubles. Together with Evan Baillie Noel , he won the bronze medal in doubles. There were only two games in the competition: in the semifinals Leaf and Noel were defeated by the later Olympic champions Vane Pennell and John Jacob Astor , so that their third place was already certain. In singles, Leaf won his semifinals against Henry Brougham in three sets. Since he suffered a hand injury at the end of the game, he did not play for the final against Evan Baillie Noel and thus received the silver medal. Leaf was a member of the Queen's Club . Before the Olympic Games, Leaf played two games in first-class cricket .
Leaf, who had degrees in engineering from Trinity College and University College London , served with the Royal Engineers of the British Army and most recently held the rank of captain . During the Second Boer War he volunteered for active service. During the First World War he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order . In 1931 he died in a traffic accident when he was run over by a bus on Cockspur Street.
