Henry Norman, 1st Baronet
Sir Henry Norman, 1st Baronet , PC , FRGS (born September 19, 1858 - † June 4, 1939 ) was a British Liberal Party politician who was a member of the House of Commons between 1900 and 1923 . In 1915 he was granted the hereditary dignity of baronet .
Life
Norman, son of Henry Norman and his wife Sarah Edna Riddington, completed an undergraduate degree at Harvard University after attending school , which he completed with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). He also graduated in theology at the University of Leipzig , and was later a magistrate (Justice of the Peace) for the county Surrey operates. In the general election of October 1, 1900 , he was elected for the first time for the Liberal Party as a member of the House of Commons and initially represented the constituency of Wolverhampton South until January 15, 1910 . On December 18, 1906 he was beaten to Knight Bachelor (Kt) and has since had the addition of "Sir".
On January 3, 1910, Norman became Assistant Postmaster-General in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Herbert Henry Asquith , but after leaving the House of Commons for the time being in the House of Commons election on January 15, 1910 , he handed over this office after just under seven weeks on January 20. February 1910 to Cecil Norton . In the early general election on December 3, 1910 , however, he was re-elected as a member of the House of Commons and represented in it until December 6, 1923. Norman, who is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS), was elected on December 22 , 1923 . June 1915 the hereditary dignity of a Baronet , of Honeyhanger in the Parish of Shottermill in the County of Surrey, bestowed in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom . On 16 January 1918, appointed him also as a member of the Secret Privy Council ( Privy Council ).
Norman was married twice, from August 28, 1891 to the divorce in 1903 with the writer Ménie Muriel Dowie . From this marriage came Henry Nigel St. Valery Norman , who served as Air Commodore in the Royal Air Force and inherited the title of 2nd Baronet after the death of his father. His second marriage was on May 8, 1907, with Florence Priscilla McLaren, daughter of the House of Commons Charles McLaren , who later became 1st Baron Aberconway. From this marriage the daughter Laura Rosalind Norman and the two sons Major Willoughby Rollo Norman, who later was CEO of the pharmaceutical manufacturer Boots Pure Drug Company from 1961 to 1972 and also Deputy CEO of the mining company English China Clays between 1968 and 1981 , and Antony Charles Wynyard were born Norman, who also served as a wing commander in the Royal Air Force.
