The Henry River is a river in the Pilbara region in the northwest of the Australian state of Western Australia .

geography

The river has its source between the High Range and Barlee Range and flows north along the western boundary of the Barlee Range Nature Reserve . Southeast of Nanutarra Roadhouse opens it in the Ashburton River .

Origin of name

The river was discovered and named in 1866 by pastoralist and researcher ET Hooley while creating a cattle drive route from Perth to Roebourne . Hooley named the river after John Henry Monger , a York merchant .
