Henryk Abicht

Henryk Abicht (pseudonyms: Józef Kulikowski , Orłowski , Baranowski , Henryk emisariusz ; * 1835 in Vilnius , Vilnius Governorate , † 1863 in Warsaw , Congress Poland ) was a Polish activist .

Life

Henryk Abicht was born in Vilnius in 1835 to Teodor and Konstancja. His father was the inspector of the post office there . In 1852 Henryk Abicht finished his education at the grammar school in Vilnius and worked in the following years for the St. Petersburg post office. His work took him to Moldova and Bessarabia . For a short time he also worked in Bucharest . In 1857 was appointed postmaster in Vilnius. In September of the same year, he fled abroad to avoid arrest on charges of participating in a secret organization aimed at giving land to farmers.

As a political emigrant he worked in London in the Zenon Świętosławski printing works until 1859 and in the Kolokol printing works until 1861 . When he emigrated he was a member of the radical organization “ Gromada Rewolucyjna Polska ”.

From 1861 to January 1862 he stayed in Paris , where he came into contact with Ludwik Mierosławski and attended lectures on artillery and political geography , among other things .

At the end of March 1862 he moved to Warsaw with forged papers under the name John Bretti , where he made himself available to the Centralny Narodowy Comitet . So he took on the propaganda in the capital and the province, collected taxes and distributed the writings "Ruch" and " Strażnica ". He was arrested in Garwolin on November 20, 1862 , and hanged in 1863 during a planned raid on a money transport .
