Henryk Hubertus Jabłoński

Henryk Hubertus Jabłoński (born as Helmut Hubertus Degler ; born November 3, 1915 in Danzig , † October 11, 1989 in Danzig) was a Polish composer and music teacher.

Degler, who came from a German-speaking middle-class family, had cello lessons with Kazimierz Wiłkomirski in Danzig from 1932 . He then studied composition in Berlin with Werner Schramm and Alfred Paetsch . From 1935 he worked as a cellist and arranger of light music for the radio station in Danzig. During the war he played the cello and piano in small entertainment bands in Danzig.

After the war he stayed in Poland and in 1948 changed his name to Jabłoński after the maiden name of his grandmother Rozalis Jabłońska. He began to work as a cellist in the Symphony Orchestra of the City of Gdańsk, directed the Politechnika Gdańska Choir from 1948 to 1953 and the Gdańsk Shipbuilding Technicians Choir from 1951 to 1954. For the city's radio station, he mainly edited Kashubian folk music. He has been composing light music for Polska Orkietra Radiowa , directed by Stefan Rachoń , since the late 1940s. He also became known as a film music composer and composer of popular songs such as Bezdomne pocałunki (text: Jacek Kasprowy ), Hej, chłopcy (text: Roman Sadowski ), Nie jestem taka zła (text: Jacek Kasprowy), and Pierwszy siwy włos (text: Kazimierz Winkler ), sung by Barbara Dunin , Marta Mirska , Regina Pisarek and Violetta Villas , among others .

From 1954 to 1980 Jabłoński taught at the Gdańsk State Music Academy . He has received several awards, including the Artist Prize (1951) and the Prize of the President of the City of Gdansk (1975) and the First Class Prize from the Ministry of Culture and Art. In 1953 he won second prize in the chamber music competition of the Polish Composers' Union with a cello sonata. Jabłoński was the father of the cellist Roman Jabłoński .
