The Radio Symphony Orchestra Warsaw ( Pol. Polska Orkiestra Radiowa ) is a Polish Symphony Orchestra next to the National Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio (NSOPR). Michał Klauza has been the artistic director since February 2, 2015 .

history

The founding of the radio orchestra goes back to the conductor Stefan Rachoń in 1945 with the intention of making high quality recordings exclusively for Polskie Radio and Telewizja Polska . The successors of Rachoń were Włodzimierz Kamirski, Jan Pruszak, Mieczysław Nowakowski. During the 1970s the radio orchestra began touring and releasing records, especially records of Polish music, e.g. B. by Wojciech Kilar , Zygmunt Krauze . During the tenure of Tadeusz Strugała (1990–1993) the Polish Radio Orchestra received its current name and moved to its new place of work - the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polskie Radio.

From 1993 to 2006 Wojciech Rajski was artistic director of the Warsaw Radio Symphony Orchestra.

In March 2007, Łukasz Borowicz was appointed to the post of Artistic Director, who led the orchestra until January 31, 2015. His CD, recorded with Dominik Połoński , was awarded the 2007 Fryderyk Chopin Prize. At the start of the 2007/2008 concert season, the Warsaw Radio Symphony Orchestra presented a concert performance of the Falstaff opera and began a collaboration with the Easter Beethoven Festival , for which it now performs a lesser-known opera every year with the subsequent release of a concert recording on CD . In March 2008 this was the Lodoïska opera at the 12th Easter Beethoven Festival , supervised by Christa Ludwig .

Under the direction of Łukasz Borowicz, it has also become a tradition that the Radio Symphony Orchestra opens the concert season in Warsaw with a performance of unknown or forgotten operas by Polish composers. So already Statkowskis Maria (2008/2009 season), Moniuszko The rafters (to celebrate the 190th birthday of the composer in 2009), Dobrzyńskis Monbar czyli Flibustierowie (been to the opera in 2010 recalled after more than 150 years since the premiere), Nowowiejskis Legenda Bałtyku (season opener 2011/2012), Noskowski's Zemsta za mur graniczny (season opener 2013/2014) and Moniuszko's Verbum nobile .

On February 2, 2015, Michał Klauza was appointed Artistic Director of the Warsaw Radio Symphony Orchestra. Recordings with outstanding Polish singers will be continued under his direction.
