Wojciech Józef Rajski (born July 9, 1948 in Edwardowo near Posen ) is a Polish conductor . He became known in Germany as the founder and artistic director of the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot . Life

Wojciech Rajski studied at the Warsaw Music Academy in the class of Bogusław May and at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with a DAAD scholarship and attended Witold Rowicki's master classes in Vienna.

From 1971 to 1978 he was Kapellmeister at the Teatr Wielki (Warsaw) , from 1974 to 1978 Kapellmeister of the Poznan Philharmonic . In 1978 he became chief conductor of the Poznan Philharmonic and moved from Teatr Wielki Warsaw to Bonn as first conductor of the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn . Both positions were not renewed after three years, and Wojciech Rajski founded the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot in 1982 , with which he is still closely associated today. As director of this Chamber Philharmonic, he worked with soloists such as Rostropowitsch , Zimerman , Szeryng , Gutman , Geringas and made many guest appearances at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival, Braunschweiger Kammermusik-Podium, Rheingau Music Festival , and the European Weeks in Passau as well the festivals in Evian and Montpellier. He has made numerous, highly regarded CD recordings, including his complete recording of the Beethoven symphonies. Since then he has been firmly anchored in German musical life with the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot. Critics consistently praise the typical orchestral sound full of vitality, precision and elegance.

In addition to building up his Chamber Philharmonic, Wojciech Rajski also worked as the first guest conductor of the Warsaw Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1993 to 2006 . Since 1998 he has held the professorship for conducting and orchestral conducting at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts .
