Herb Jaffe
Herbert "Herb" Jaffe (born May 20, 1921 in New York City , † December 7, 1991 in Beverly Hills , Los Angeles , California ) was an American film producer , entrepreneur and former literary agent .
Life
Herb Jaffe grew up in Brooklyn , attended both Brooklyn College and Columbia University, and served in the United States Air Force during World War II . After working for the MCA production company for six years, he became a literary agent and founded his own agency, Herb Jaffe Associates , in 1957 , where he represented writers such as Paddy Chayefsky , Joseph Heller and Reginald Rose , among others . By selling the filming rights of her works to Hollywood studios, he soon made such good contacts that in 1965 he sold his own agency and became head of the worldwide production of United Artists . In 1975 he left the studio, however, and from then on produced his own films as an independent filmmaker, such as The Wind and the Lion , Escape into the Future and The Black Night - Fright Night .
Herb Jaffe died of cancer in his home on December 7, 1991 . He was survived by both his wife Nel and sons, screenwriters and producers Robert Jaffe and Steven-Charles Jaffe .
