Herbert Augustin

Herbert Augustin (born March 17, 1928 in Dresden + March 15, 2008) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Herbert Augustin, born in Dresden, Saxony in March 1928, studied from 1950 to 1955 at the Dresden University of Fine Arts . Heinz Lohmar , Erich Fraaß , Hans Theo Richter and Hans Grundig were among his teachers and lecturers . Augustin obtained a degree in graphic design and after completing his studies initially worked as a freelance artist. According to the Allgemeine Künstlerlexikon he was supervised by Wilhelm Lachnit during this time . In 1960 he started working in the Cottbus district . Shortly after completing his studies, he became a member of state commissioning commissions in Berlin and Cottbus. From 1975 he worked again in Dresden. He died on March 15, 2008 in the presence of his wife Gisela Jaenichen-Augustin and found his final resting place in the Heidefriedhof in Dresden.

Work (selection)

In addition to oil paintings, Augustin's work includes black and white woodcuts , murals and linocuts . In keeping with the zeitgeist of the time, it mainly dealt with the anti-fascist resistance struggle and the life and history of the German Democratic Republic . Murals were created here, among others, at the Polytechnic High School in Elsterwerda-Biehla and in the Plessa cultural center . Both buildings, newly constructed at the time, were opened for use in 1960.

Augustine's graphics later came into the possession of museums in Bernburg , Dresden and Freital , among others , or were published in the print media.
