Herbert Gregor Ehrenfried Barthel (born August 24, 1895 in Breslau , † September 28, 1945 in Bad Nenndorf ) was a German politician ( NSDAP ) and SA leader .

Herbert Barthel was born in 1895 as the son of the postal assistant Heinrich Barthel. After attending elementary school and secondary school in Breslau, he joined the Deutsche Reichspost in 1912 after completing an apprenticeship as a telegraph assistant . From 1915 to 1918 he took part in the First World War as a member of a news force. He then took part in the fighting in the early post-war period in Lithuania and East Prussia with the reserve corps, and then worked in the Silesian border guard until April 1920. From 1920 to 1933 Barthel worked as a civil servant for the German Reichspost in Breslau , Schweidnitz , Burgsteinfurt , Münster and Recklinghausen , most recently as senior telegraph secretary.

Since 1922 Barthel was involved in the national movement . In 1924 he joined the Völkisch social block before joining the NSDAP in 1925 ( membership number 16.218). In 1925 he took over the office of district manager in Münster, and then from 1926 to 1931 he was the local group leader in Recklinghausen. From 1932 to 1934 he took on the duties of district leader of the NSDAP for the Recklinghausen-Land district. From October 1933 to June 1934 and from January 1937 to March 1938 he was again district leader in Lüdinghausen. Also from October 1933 he held the office of Gau inspector and Gauamtsleiter of the office for civil servants in Gau Westfalen-Nord. In the SA he reached the rank of standard leader in April 1943.

In October 1933, Barthel was initially appointed provisional district administrator in Lüdinghausen and finally took over this position in October 1934, which he held until March 1945. From January 1942 to August 1944 he was also deputy district administrator in Beckum.

On March 11, 1938 Barthel came after replacement for the late Wilhelm Rosenbaum as a deputy in the Nazi Reichstag one, which he by the end of Nazi rule as a representative of the constituency belonged 17 (Westfalen Nord).

In the denazification process in 1949, Barthel was posthumously classified in category III (less polluted).
