Herbert Dreyer

Herbert Dreyer (born June 14, 1901 in Elmshorn ; † after 1970) was a German art historian .

Herbert Dreyer studied art history and received his doctorate in 1926 at the University of Göttingen under Georg Vitzthum von Eckstädt . In the 1930s he worked briefly as a research assistant at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin .

On June 23, 1945, he was appointed general director of the Berlin State Museums by the City of Berlin to succeed Otto Kümmel . On July 31 or August 7, 1945, however, he was recalled because he had been a member of the NSDAP . From the 1950s to the 1970s he worked as an art dealer in Berlin.
