Wolf-Dieter Dube

Wolf-Dieter Dube (born July 13, 1934 in Schwerin ; † September 9, 2015 in Berlin ) was a German art historian .

Live and act

Dube studied art history and received his doctorate from the University of Göttingen in 1963 . From 1969 head of the State Gallery of Modern Art in Munich , from 1976 also deputy general director of the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen . From 1983 to 1999 he was Director General of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin / Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz .

After 1990, together with Günter Schade , he led the amalgamation of those collections of the state museums that had been separated by the division of Germany . In doing so, he made a historical contribution to both Berlin and the German museum landscape. Among other things, he gave the decisive impetus for the construction of the picture gallery at the Kulturforum , and the opening of the Hamburger Bahnhof as a museum for contemporary art is also associated with his name . Dube was also the author of numerous specialist publications.
