Herbert Eisenstein

Herbert Eisenstein (born September 30, 1948 in Vienna ) is an Austrian scholar of Islam and politician ( FPÖ ). From 2008 to 2015 he was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and City Council .

education and profession

Herbert Eisenstein attended the elementary school in Zissersdorf from 1954 to 1958 and the secondary school in Vienna- Simmering from 1958 to 1962 . Between 1962 and 1964, Eisenstein graduated from Commercial Academy I in Vienna's 1st district before moving to the Municipal Commercial Academy in Horn . After graduating from high school in 1968, he did military service with the Austrian Armed Forces in garrisons in Vienna and Spratzern near St. Pölten. From 1969 to 1978 Eisenstein studied Arabic at the University of Vienna and obtained his doctorate in 1978 as a Dr. phil.

Eisenstein worked for Österreichische Länderbank AG from 1974 to 1975 and was accepted into the federal civil service as a research assistant and study assistant at the Institute for Oriental Studies at the University of Vienna in the field of Arabic studies. He was a university assistant from 1978 and was accepted into permanent employment as an assistant professor in 1991. From 1996 until his retirement, Eisenstein was a university lecturer and associate professor for Arabic and Islamic studies at the Institute for Oriental Studies.

Herbert Eisenstein was district councilor in Vienna-Simmering from 1987 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2008. Between 1992 and 1996 he also held the position of club chairman. Eisenstein was also a member of Housing Commission II from 1992 to 2001.

Eisenstein represented the FPÖ in Vienna's municipal council and state parliament from October 29, 2008. He replaced Harald Stefan, who had moved to the National Council . Eisenstein announced integration policy as the focus of his work. He opposes the headscarf as a religious symbol and is for a ban on minarets .

Verbal lapses

During a meeting of the Vienna City Council in June 2011, Eisenstein reprimanded the then Green MP Şenol Akkılıç after repeated interjections with the following words: “Mr. Akkilic, my word is. You came to us to live in our state, so let me finish. You are only superficially proficient in the German language. "

Memberships

Eisenstein is a member of the Oriental Society and former chairman of the Simmering cultural initiative. He is also a member of the Deutsche Morgenländische Gesellschaft , a member of the Union des Arabisants et Islamisants d'Europe and a member of the Catholic Austrian student association Waldmark Horn in the Mittelschüler-Kartell-Verband (MKV).

Private

Herbert Eisenstein is divorced and has two daughters and a son.
