Herbert Grubmayr

Herbert Grubmayr (born June 16, 1929 in Scheibbs ) is a former Austrian ambassador .

Life

Herbert Grubmayr studied law , English, Spanish and French at the University of Vienna and Washington University in St. Louis . From 1952 to 1994 he was employed in the foreign service of the 2nd Austrian Republic. From 1955 to 1958 Norbert Bischoff's personal secretary in Moscow and took part in the negotiations on the Austrian State Treaty . From 1958 to 1961 he was Julius Raab's secretary . From 1965 to 1970 he was the embassy secretary in Mexico City . From 1971 to 1978 he was ambassador to Bogotá and at the same time was accredited to the governments in Quito , Panama City and Port-au-Prince . From 1979 to 1983 he was ambassador to Baghdad . From 1983 to 1985 he was ambassador to Damascus .

From 1985 to 1990 he was ambassador to Moscow . On October 9, 1990 he was appointed ambassador to Bonn , where he was accredited from October 10, 1990 to January 23, 1993. He was Deputy State Secretary for Foreign Affairs. In 1994 he was retired . From 1995 to 1996 he headed the OSCE Mission to Estonia . In 1997 he headed the OSCE presence in Albania . In 1998 he was Deputy Head of the EU Observer Mission for the Balkans and Special Representative for the EU Presidency in Albania.

Since 1947 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KÖStV Austria Vienna in the ÖCV .
