Herbert Höbusch

Herbert Höbusch (born January 29, 1949 in Gelsenkirchen ; † February 14, 2014 ) was a German soccer player who played a total of 134 Bundesliga games for FC Schalke 04 and VfB Stuttgart .

Club career

Höbusch came from his hometown club SV Rotthausen in the Gelsenkirchen district of the same name to FC Schalke 04, where the defensive midfielder signed a professional contract on his 18th birthday. From July 1, 1967, he was a member of the Bundesliga squad of miners . Schalke's coach Karl-Heinz Marotzke put the newcomer into the starting line-up on the first day of the season , August 19, 1967. In the game in the Glückauf-Kampfbahn in the 3: 4 against Borussia Mönchengladbach he was one of the better players in the home team. As a result, Höbusch became a regular player and made 31 league appearances and two games in the DFB Cup in the first season with the Blues . In 1973, after 81 appearances with three goals in the VfB jersey for a transfer fee of 55,000 DM, he went to FC Augsburg , with whom he was champion of the Regionalliga Süd in his first season and then three more seasons in the 2nd League South (84 appearances, three goals) played.

In 1977 Höbusch ended his football career due to minor health problems. He went back to the Ruhr area , where he then worked in mining research .

National team

Höbusch was used a total of 14 times in the junior national teams of the DFB . His only appearance in the U-23 national team was on June 3, 1968, the 0-1 defeat against England in Kassel . In addition to Höbusch, the team included Klaus Fichtel , Berti Vogts and Horst Köppel .
